They have the same name, but not the same plans.
The older Bart Maves, who sits on city council, will seek his second consecutive term as city councillor in the Oct. 25 municipal election.
His nephew the younger Bart Maves, a former Niagara Falls MPP, will run for a seat on regional council.
Before filing their nomination papers Thursday morning, they met with the press on the steps of city hall to announce their decision.
The younger Maves, a Conservative MPP from 1995 to 2003, said having the same name on the ballot is a concern. That's why he and his uncle wanted to announce their candidacies together -- to let people know they are running for different offices, but both to represent Niagara Falls.
